Finding the right football session for your child's age and confidence
Children of the same age can arrive at football training with very different experience and confidence. One may play several times a week; another may be trying an organised session for the first time. Choosing a session starts with eligibility, then a conversation about what will help your child take part.
Start with the current age range
The two current CPS West Sussex weekly sessions are for outfield players aged 6–12. Withdean Sports Complex runs on Wednesday from 5–6pm. The Triangle in Burgess Hill runs on Friday from 6–7pm. If your child is outside that range, contact the team before making a booking.
Beginners are welcome
Your child does not need to have mastered particular skills before trying a session. Let the coach know how much football they have played and how they feel about joining. A child who is quiet on arrival may simply need time to become comfortable with a new setting.
Look for a manageable challenge
Useful practice offers chances to succeed and things still to work on. A more demanding activity is not automatically the better choice if a child cannot yet take part confidently. Equally, an experienced player benefits from opportunities to stretch their skills.
Talk to the coach
Ask how the practice can suit your child's current needs. Share any concerns about confidence, understanding instructions or settling into a group. The local coaches can explain the arrangements for that session and discuss what they observe.
Use the free trial to decide
Afterwards, ask your child what they enjoyed and what felt difficult. Consider their involvement and willingness to return, rather than comparing them with the strongest player on the pitch. The first session is a chance to experience the coaching before choosing whether to join.
